Typing Test Preparation Guide

How to Prepare for a Typing Test

Typing tests are used in some recruitment processes, office roles, and training programmes. Test rules vary, so always check the instructions issued by the employer or examination authority.

Understand the format

Confirm the time limit, required language, keyboard layout, passage style, and whether mistakes reduce the score. Do not assume every test uses the same calculation.

Practise under timed conditions

Use one-, two-, or three-minute exercises to build familiarity with a countdown. Practise longer passages if your target test requires sustained typing.

Improve your accuracy

Review common errors such as omitted letters, doubled spaces, incorrect capitalisation, and punctuation mistakes. Learn the official scoring method where available.

Prepare your equipment

Practise on a keyboard similar to the one you expect to use. Check the keyboard language, browser, and desk setup before the test. Follow the venue’s rules and do not use unauthorised tools during an examination.

On test day

Read all instructions, begin at a controlled pace, and avoid panic after a mistake. This website provides practice only and is not affiliated with a recruitment body.
