A 7-Day Typing Practice Plan for Beginners

A short, repeatable practice routine can make typing improvement easier to manage. This seven-day plan is a flexible starting point, not a promise of a specific WPM increase.

Day 1: Establish a baseline

Complete two one-minute tests at an easy or medium level. Record WPM and accuracy. Do not chase a high score; learn which keys and patterns cause mistakes.

Day 2: Practise steady rhythm

Complete three short sessions, resting between them. Aim to keep a consistent pace rather than accelerating and slowing down repeatedly.

Day 3: Review common errors

Identify repeated mistakes, such as missing vowels, doubled letters, spaces, or capitalisation. Practise sentences containing those patterns.

Day 4: Add punctuation

Use passages with commas, quotation marks, apostrophes, colons, and semicolons. Read the punctuation before typing so it does not surprise you mid-sentence.

Day 5: Practise numbers

Type dates, amounts, percentages, and reference codes carefully. Keep the number row or keypad layout consistent with the keyboard you use most often.

Day 6: Try a difficult passage

Choose a longer paragraph and focus on clean keystrokes. If accuracy drops sharply, return to a medium passage and rebuild a comfortable rhythm.

Day 7: Review progress

Repeat a test similar to Day 1 and compare both speed and accuracy. A small, reliable improvement is more useful than a single unusually high result.

Keep the habit sustainable

Practise regularly, take breaks, and stop if you feel pain or numbness. Progress depends on starting skill, practice quality, keyboard familiarity, and consistency.
